MUSHROOM CULTVATION

                     Mushroom Cultivation

Mushroom is the fruiting body of fungus.Mushroom is the rich source of protein,vitamin and  folic acid.

Edible mushrooms

1:Oyster Mushroom              :      Pleurotus  species
2:Milky Mushroom                :      Calocybe   species 
3:Paddy straw mushroom     :      Volvariella species

Method of cultivation of oyster Mushroom

1 kg of 1 year old paddy straw is taken and kept in water for 18 hours.Soaked straw is taken out of water and kept inside a basket for 1-2 hours to drain excess water.The soaked straw kept under boiling water for 30-40 minutes.for surface sterilization.Keep this in basket allow to drain excess water and cool down.Then fill this straw up to 5cm height in polythene bag of 30x60cm size and 150-200 gauge thickness.Pressed well with hand sprinkle one table spoon of spawn over the straw around the peripheral region .Again second layer of straw is filled ,press well and sprinkle spawn this process is repeated till it reaches mouth of cover .The bag is tied tightly with twine .Keep undisturbed for for about 15-20 minute under thatched roof well ventilated with  rat proof .After 15 days remove the polythene bag by cutting with blade .Pinhead formation starts on 20th day onwards.It will take 2-3 days for full development of mushrooms.Harvesting can be continued up to 2-3 weeks with occasional sprinkling of water.
